United Airlines Boeing 247 at Iowa City Municipal Airport, 1934
After Boeing initially ran the airport starting in 1927, responsibility for this was transferred to United Air Transport in 1930. United provided commercial airline service at the Iowa City airport until 1959. A Boeing Model 247 is pictured in these photographs. This model is often considered to be the first model airliner, seating 10 passengers.
